San Francisco is a city literally abuzz with
leading edge innovation, world class institutions,
natural beauty, and public treasures. And everyday,
our public schools are responsible for educating
56,000 children across an amazing array of
cultures.
Let’s imagine that we applied the full measure of
our city’s vast resources – and its reputation for
innovation and creativity– to reinvent our public
schools. That we finally mustered the political
will and commitment to put our children
first.
Let’s imagine that through a fresh burst of energy,
new leadership, and a bold strategy based on best
practices, we were able to draw together the
region’s best and brightest – the Bay Area’s most
successful companies, universities, leading
foundations and most effective civic and community
groups – to ensure that every child had access to a
quality education.
Let’s imagine this new team worked with an
entrepreneurial spirit, reinventing learning in the
21st century by casting aside old-school practices,
and functioned more like a VC firm, helping to
raise the intellectual and financial capital
necessary to improve the city’s schools.
As a result, every child was given the opportunity
to live up to their potential, and could graduate
with the knowledge, skills and confidence to
prepare them for success in higher education, the
21st century workplace, and as a citizen in our
democracy.
At the San Francisco School Alliance, this is our
mission. But in order to succeed, we need it to be
your mission too.
