“ There is a place in America to take a stand: it is public education. It is the underpinning of our cultural and political system. It is the great common ground. Public education after all is the engine that moves us as a society toward a common destiny... It is in public education that the American dream begins to take shape.”

Until 2005, the San Francisco School Alliance (the Alliance) was the the Every Child Can Learn Foundation (ECCLF). Since its inception in 1995, the Every Child Can Learn Foundation established a strong track-record of supporting the educational priorities of the San Francisco Unified School District and building partnerships with community organizations, beginning with the School to Career Partnership, a joint project of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, San Francisco Unified School District, City College of San Francisco, San Francisco Mayor's Office, and the Private Industry Council of San Francisco. Building on the success of that program, ECCLF fostered more than a dozen high-leverage partnerships with SFUSD, including the Maisin Scholarship Award and the San Francisco Beacon Initiative, both of which continue to support SFUSD's students today.
In 2005, Board Members of the Every Child Can Learn Foundation heard repeated calls from members of the funding community that they wanted to strategically re-engage with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) by means of an engaged intermediary, rather than fund projects that were not aligned with or created to meet the greatest needs of the district. At the same time, the San Francisco Business Advisory Council sought to formalize its partnership with SFUSD. The Every Child Can Learn Foundation merged with the Business Advisory Council to become the San Francisco School Alliance and serve as a strategic point of entry and accountability for district partnership.
Today, the San Francisco School Alliance (the Alliance) is an independent, non-profit organization that builds partnerships, raises money, and advocates for policies to ensure that every student, in every classroom, in every public school in San Francisco receives a world-class education.
